ease up

Yes, you'll have to choose a few expectations to ease up on.

Show up to the party with something store-bought.
Drive around a dirty car for a few extra days.
Wear the outfit that absolutely does not say Anthropologie model.
Accept the reality that some food may go to waste.
Fail to research the most responsible, eco-friendly version of the product.
Leave early. Show up late.

capacity

You may be an exceptional friend
who makes intentional conversations a priority
while failing to feed the homeless.

You may spend more to support
responsible farms and influence food politics
while failing to give to many charities.

You may invest time and energy
in being present with your family more fully
while failing to become a local volunteer.

All these things are good and well, my dear.
The "failing" really isn't failing at all.
It's vital decision-making.

You cannot do it all.
That expectation to meet every need?
That isn't your role here... not at all.

beyond

This moment is amazing...
and you didn't even plan that.
How humbling.

at last

Humbly reminded -- you cannot hurry the creative process.

these walls

[lyrics]

The words on the page
The rhythms transferred to strings
With gentle force, they proclaim
Though the walls have had their reign

These walls
These walls don't master me
These walls
These walls don't master me

For so long boxed in tight
With the fear at its height
The simple pleasures fade away
Left until another day

But, these walls
These walls don't master me
These walls
These walls don't master me

Cause the nourishment takes hold
Bringing life again to the soul
Yes, it's with frivolity
That I break through the walls before me

These walls
These walls don't master me
These walls
These walls don't master me

Yes, the words on the page
The rhythms transferred to strings
With gentle force, they proclaim
Though the walls have had their reign
These walls
These walls don't master me

miracle

There are a million things that could go wrong in your life.
But you're standing here breathing, and life is pretty good.
Focus the energy on celebrating that.
