Efficiency? Don't let that drown out your creativity.

mystery
I don't want to feel hurried.
I want to have space to breathe.
Room to create, room to release
what rises within me.
I cannot compare these days
to those past or those of another.
I cannot even try to make sense of them.
Some matters simply need not
be understood or grasped.
There is courage, wisdom, in fact,
in accepting the truth that life is mostly mystery,
so far beyond grasp.
Even still, a piece of me rears its head,
wanting to resist, to control, to sort it all out.
Yet, it's clear now that resisting
simply wears the soul out.
Sometimes these things that come
make so little sense, even to me.
But that is what it is -- life,
a mystery.
I want to have space to breathe.
Room to create, room to release
what rises within me.
I cannot compare these days
to those past or those of another.
I cannot even try to make sense of them.
Some matters simply need not
be understood or grasped.
There is courage, wisdom, in fact,
in accepting the truth that life is mostly mystery,
so far beyond grasp.
Even still, a piece of me rears its head,
wanting to resist, to control, to sort it all out.
Yet, it's clear now that resisting
simply wears the soul out.
Sometimes these things that come
make so little sense, even to me.
But that is what it is -- life,
a mystery.

inefficiency
The creative process isn't an efficient one.
"Only after nature, in her promiscuous creativity, throws up countless new possibilities and combinations does natural selection (her critical impulse, if you will) step in to determine which work best under the circumstances. This colossally wasteful and extravagant process is what makes possible the beauty of the rose, which far exceeds any possible utility -- much more modest flowers attract bumblebees equally well. Nature creates without an end in view; fitness is but an afterthought. The gardener, in his own little world, like the artist in his, performs both functions, hatching the trials and then culling the errors."
- from Second Nature by Michael Pollan
awe
I cannot explain life away.
I cannot maintain control.
I can simply stand in awe,
captivated by the mystery.
I cannot maintain control.
I can simply stand in awe,
captivated by the mystery.
