Authenticity

In the midst of a conversation with my mom about whether her twitter feed should publish to her personal facebook or professional facebook page, it became apparent to me – work-life separation has become pretty dang awkward these days.

Countless articles have been published that encourage people to carefully censor content within their social media world. They caution that current or potential employers might not be so fond of the contents, placing employment in jeopardy.

Frankly, those articles irritate me.

Let’s stop censoring ourselves and cease this fight to compartmentalize our lives. Let’s live up to our true identities, proclaiming them with confidence to the world. Let’s let employers hire complete people, not artificial, censored workforces. Let’s begin taking our complete selves to work each day.

Let’s encourage authenticity because at the end of the day, there’s little satisfaction in living an inauthentic life.

unleashing a new era

When he was alive, Great Grandpa George would often look carefully at me and say he wondered what thoughts were running through that mind of mine. Even since childhood, I’ve guarded my incessant flood of thoughts quite cautiously.

I've carried that guarded tendency throughout my life, including across the pages of this blog. Within this whirlwind of recent growth in my life though, I’ve been gaining confidence in myself and longed to better unleash my identity, complete with all its imperfections.

So, I'm entering a bit of a new era, encouraging myself to be more candid in revealing who I am.
